Another death. Someone who had everything going for him. CEO, family man, ex-smoker. Ironic that the one thing he took up to build up his fitness would be his killer.
It's a weird coincidence, and I'm not blowing my horn or anything, but I'm glad to say that each year I've been helping out at the OSIM Tri, we've not had such tragedies. I'm definitely counting my lucky stars! I wasn't on duty when the previous tragedy happened too. That time, my friend, one of the Thong twins (Not sure if it was Thogn Hua or Thong Seng) had tried to resuscitate the casualty but to no avail.
People, if you're gonna take part in such endurance events involving swimming, please make sure you get in a few sessions in the sea BEFORE the event! It's highly different from swmming in a pool. A gulp of saltwater is enough to throw the most seasoned pool swimmers off, and think about it.. you're splashing around with about a hundred other people kicking water in your face.
Sincere condolences to the family of the deceased...
